A portion of our State contenders have been named! Congratulations to the teams who’ve secured their spots for next weekend, and a huge shout-out to the teams who ended their seasons with some amazing performances! I had the privilege of attending the 2AAA and 4AAA sections in person, and the highlights were definitely Chanhassen and Osseo! Chanhassen delivered a beautifully refined and energetic jazz routine that blossomed with musicality as the season progressed. Osseo had the crowd jiving with their upbeat, high-energy kick routine (I’m looking at you, Sartell alumni and fans)! I can’t wait to see what both of these programs bring to the floor in 2026!
This weekend, we’re wrapping up the Target Center lineup! The teams from 1A, 2A, 3A, 1AA, 3AA, 1AAA, and 3AAA will take center stage, all with hopes of earning a medal and punching their ticket to State! Due to weather concerns, Sections 1A and 2A have opted to compete tonight! I love seeing the resilience of dance teams as they adapt, shifting their focus and competing a day early! Additionally, 3A has pushed their start time back to 2 p.m. Good luck and safe travels to all this weekend, and without further delay, let’s dive into the action with some highlights from the trending scores on the Sections Leaderboard!
1A – Due to the weather forecast, the 1A Section Tournament will take place this evening. Cannon Falls, Lake City, Plainview-Elgin-Millville, Wabasha-Kellogg, and Zumbrota-Mazeppa are our top five scores in both Jazz and Kick. Zumbrota-Mazeppa leads in Jazz with an average score of 65.2, while Cannon Falls tops Kick with a score of 64. Lake City is a close second at 63.8. It’s going to be a nail-biter, as anyone has a shot at making it to State!
2A – Both 2024 Class A State Champions hail from Section 2A, and due to expected weather on Saturday, their competition has been moved to Friday. Just like last year, St. Cloud Cathedral is leading in Jazz with a score of 69.6, and Holdingford leads Kick with a score of 70.1. New London-Spicer, Minnewaska, and Melrose will also be looking to snag a spot on the podium tonight!
3A – 3A will be having a later start of 2 p.m. to allow for safer travels for all. LQPV-DB and Yellow Medicine East have a strong tradition of advancing to State in both routines, and 2025 is shaping up to follow that trend! LQPV-DB is currently at the top of both leaderboards with an impressive average score of 71.1. Montevideo, Worthington, Canby/Minneota, and Glencoe-Silver Lake will be vying for the remaining spots in this competitive field!
1AA – A nail-biting showdown is set to take place at Northfield High School on Saturday. South St. Paul leads Jazz with a score of 68.1, followed by Austin at 64.1. Faribault, Northfield, Albert Lea, and Simley are all separated by less than a point—it’s anyone’s game for the remaining spots! Austin currently leads in Kick with a score of 73.5.
3AA – This section is a fierce competition! Orono leads Jazz with a score of 80.4 and Kick with 77.3. It’s unfortunate that only three teams can make it to State, given how strong the field is with Orono, Holy Family, Mound Westonka, Delano, and Belle Plaine all placing among the top ten highest scores in all of AA. Anyone at Bloomington Kennedy on Saturday is in for a treat, as these teams will leave everything on the floor in their bid for a spot at State!
1AAA – Since 2021, Eastview, Lakeville North, and Lakeville South have consistently advanced to State in both Jazz and Kick. This season Eastview leads the section in both Jazz (91.3) and Kick (90.5), with Lakeville North and Lakeville South following in the 80s. However, teams like Prior Lake, Eagan, and Farmington are hungry to upset the results!
3AAA – The tightest race of the AAA sections will take place Saturday morning at Bloomington Kennedy. With teams shifting positions throughout the season and scores showing close competitions, this will be a dramatic contest! In Jazz, seven teams are separated by less than 10 points, and in Kick there are eight. The teams that remained focused and sharp these past two weeks could shine at just the right moment to secure a spot at State. Currently, Blaine leads Jazz with a score of 73.5, closely followed by Two Rivers at 73.3, while Two Rivers tops Kick with a score of 74.2.
